American Pie Bake-Off

For many people, nothing evokes the American spirit like apple pie and cherry pie. We're commemorating America's 250th anniversary with a good old-fashioned pie bake-off! There is a debate over which pie is a more ubiquitous symbol of America; cherry or apple. We couldn't decide so we are offering the chance for both flavors to win the coveted award of WCLS Top Pie. Read on to learn how to enter the bake-off. Don't want to compete but love pie? You can attend the event to cheer on the bakers and try some bites of pie! NOTE: ENTRIES ARE NOW CLOSED. WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING ENTRIES. We will accept 5 entries for each type of pie for a total of 10 entries. Here are the rules: 1. Your pie must be homemade by the person presenting it. 2. Your pie must have been made after 5:30pm on October 14. We want to ensure freshness in these pies. 3. One entry per-pie type. In other words, one person may not enter both kinds of pie. You must choose either cherry or apple. 4. You must stick with the kind of pie that you initially submitted a request for. You may not switch which kind of pie you make after your initial application to compete. 5. Entrants are expected to arrive at the Ferndale library no later than 5:00pm on October 15. 6. There will be a small prize for the winners of each category, but it's really about the glory. Pies will be judged by three Whatcom County residents, which include professional and amateur bakers.
