CITY OF FERNDALE’S PARKS, RECREATION, AND TRAILS ADVISORY BOARD TO HOST RIBBON CUTTING FOR NEW COMMUNICATION BOARD AT STAR PARK
Ferndale, WA – The City of Ferndale’s Parks, Recreation, and Trails Advisory Board (PRTAB) and the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce invite the community to celebrate the installation of a new communication board at Star Park with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, April 6th at 11:30 a.m.
Communication boards are visual tools that help individuals communicate using symbols, pictures, and words. Installed near playgrounds, these boards help children express needs, interact with peers, and participate more fully in play. The addition of the communication board at Star Park reflects the City of Ferndale’s commitment to creating inclusive, welcoming parks where children of all abilities can play and connect with one another.
“It has been my experience that when time and resources are spent on accessibility for individuals with disabilities, the benefits extend to everyone in the community, and playgrounds are where community begins,” said Mayor Hansen. “This communication board will help more children participate fully, and give parents, grandparents, and caregivers better tools to connect. By removing communication barriers, we strengthen relationships at every age!"
Following the brief ribbon cutting ceremony, PRTAB will host a Spring Break Bubble
Playdate at Star Park. Families, community members, and kids at heart, are invited to stay and enjoy this free playdate, which will feature bubble stations set up throughout the park, toys and games, and plenty of opportunities for fun and play. The event will also include participation from the Whatcom Center for Early Learning. The playdate will begin immediately following the ribbon cutting ceremony and will continue until 1:00 p.m. Community members are encouraged to bring their kids, meet neighbors, and celebrate spring together at Star Park.
