Understanding Equity and Cultural Humility: A Free Workshop
The Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center and the Whatcom County Library System are pleased to offer a free workshop, Exploring Equity and Cultural Humility, at the Ferndale Library, on Thursday, April 5th, from 5 PM to 8 PM. As human beings, regardless of race, class, gender, or the myriad other differences among us, we each need safety, connection, respect, and to be heard. It can be hard to stay open to and welcoming of perspectives that differ from our own, but as neighbors and community members, we must. This workshop will empower and encourage participants to build personal awareness of issues relating to race, ethnicity, and cultural heritage. The workshops will create space for dialogue to contribute to further learning, and inspire compassion and kindness to honor the diversity of neighbors throughout Whatcom County. The workshops will invite participants to: · Honor human diversity · Promote cultural self-awareness and understanding · Engage in cross-cultural learning activities to gain in-depth knowledge of the history and culture of ethnic and cultural groups · Examine the historical and institutional power of the “isms” The training is free, and pizza will be provided.
