Tourism and Communications Coordinator - Ferndale Chamber of Commerce
Location: Ferndale, WA
Status: Part-Time / 20-25 hours per week

The Ferndale Chamber of Commerce is seeking a creative, community-minded Tourism and Communications Coordinator to help tell the story of Ferndale and promote both our Chamber and city as a vibrant place to visit, live, and do business. This part-time role plays a key part in rebuilding our visibility, improving engagement, and supporting tourism and community-focused events.

The Ferndale Chamber of Commerce represents a vibrant community of over 200 local businesses and organizations. Our mission is to connect, support, and champion the Ferndale business community through events, programming, and advocacy. As a cornerstone organization in Whatcom County, we are committed to building partnerships, fostering local economic vitality, and serving as a trusted resource to our members and beyond. 

Position Summary:
The Tourism and Communications Coordinator is a key team member at the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce, reporting to the Executive Director. This role supports the Chamber’s mission by promoting Ferndale as a destination, amplifying our presence through communications, and strengthening relationships with both the community and our business members. With a focus on visibility and engagement, this position helps tell the story of Ferndale and the Chamber of Commerce, and plays a critical role in the success of Chamber-led strategic efforts. 

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
Community and Content

  • Create and manage content for newsletters, social media and the Chamber website
  • Promote Chamber events and initiatives through digital and print communications
  • Develop consistent and engaging messaging aligned with the Chambers brand and tone
  • Track communication performance metrics and adjust strategies to improve engagement
Tourism and Visitor Engagement
  • Serve as a point of contact for visitors and maintain a welcoming Visitor Center presence
  • Curate and distribute information about local attractions, events and businesses
  • Collaborate with tourism partners and the City of Ferndale to support shared promotional goals
  • Assist in the development of tourism focused campaigns and materials
Event Support
  • Assist with promotion, logistics and execution of chamber events such as Jam on the River, networking programs and community initiatives
  • Capture and share stories and visuals that highlight Chamber impact and member successes
Year One Areas of Focus:
In your first year, you’ll focus on: 
  • Support the planning, promotion, and execution of Jam on the River, one of the Chamber’s largest annual community events
  • Begin developing and implementing strategic communication efforts to increase member and community engagement
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and newly formed Communications Committee to shape brand voice, improve outreach, and align messaging with strategic goals
  • Help strengthen the Chamber’s presence in the community as well as tourism efforts to highlight Ferndale 
Qualifications: 
  • Strong writing, editing, and social media management skills
  • Experience with content creation tools such as Canva, Mailchimp, basic video editing, etc.
  • Friendly, community-focused approach and ability to communicate with diverse audiences
  • Familiarity with Ferndale and Whatcom County
  • Self-Starter with attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and with a team 
  • Ability to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends as needed
Preferred:
  • Experience with website management, email marketing and CRM platforms
  • Background or interest in tourism, hospitality or small business support
Compensation & Benefits: 
Hourly Rate: $20 - $25 per hour depending on experience
  • This position is bonus eligible at the discretion of the Board of Directors
